Mike’s Gun: An ATMakers.org Project
On Saturday, June 23, 2018 Mike Phillips finally checked off a long-standing desire from his “Things to Do” list – firing a gun with a switch. Mike is 37 years old and is severely disabled by Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 1. It was predicted he would not live more than a year but he’s been pushing the boundaries of what is possible his entire life. With the help of assistive technology he was able to enjoy firing a gun at a gun range. Something he is wanted to do for many years. Although politically very liberal and pro-gun control, the ability to fire a gun at a gun range for sport purposes is in no way inconsistent with his political beliefs.
By making an innovative use of a gun vice, a raspberry pi, and a web interface, Mike was able to check this item off his list of things to do.
ATMakers.org is happy to have helped this happen. Check out this video.
