That’s right! It’s CircuitPython on Raspberry Pi! Wire up your favorite sensors and use the same great CircuitPython code you’ve been using with microcontrollers right on your Raspberry Pi!

We’ve got tons of projects, libraries and example code for CircuitPython on microcontrollers, and thanks to the flexibility and power of Python it’s easy to get it working with micro-computers like Raspberry Pi or other ‘Linux with GPIO pins available’ single board computers.

We’ve written a special library called Adafruit Blinka to provide the layer that translates the CircuitPython hardware API to whatever library the Linux board provides.

We’ve added all the libraries to PyPi so installation is super simple via pip. We’ve also updated the CircuitPython guides! They now have sections for wiring up the sensor to and installing the libraries on your Raspberry Pi. The CircuitPython code works exactly the same way it works on microcontrollers, so the code examples will work on your Raspberry Pi too!

AM2320 Digital Temperature and Humidity Sensor – unlike classic DHT sensors, it has an I2C interface! That’s right, you do not need to use a bit-bang timing-specific protocol to talk to the AM2320, it uses plain-old-I2C. Updated Guide

L3GD20H Triple-Axis Gyro Breakout Board – L3GD20/L3G4200 Upgrade – L3GD20H – A gyroscope is a type of sensor that can sense twisting and turning motions. Often paired with an accelerometer, you can use these to do 3D motion capture and inertial measurement (that is – you can tell how an object is moving!) Updated Guide

MCP230xx- i2c input/output port expanders – add 8 or 16 pins to your microcontroller using a MCP230 08/17 port expander. They use two i2c pins (these can be shared with other i2c devices), and in exchange gives you general purpose pins. Updated Guide

MCP3xxx – 10-Bit ADC With SPI Interface – need to add analog inputs? This chip will add channels of 10-bit analog input to your microcontroller or microcomputer project. It’s super easy to use, and uses SPI so only 4 pins are required. We chose this chip as a great accompaniment to the Raspberry Pi computer, because it’s fun to have analog inputs but the Pi does not have an ADC. Updated Guide
