Hacking a Karaoke Machine for Beat Matching and Scratching #MusicMonday
Hacking music tools to do things that they weren’t originally intended for is a thing that makes us very happy. So we’re happy to learn that someone is breaking open Karakoke machines to make them available for turntable techniques. Here’s more from CDM:
There’s a ton going on here – fully exploiting the karaoke machine as an instrument, “scratching” the tape heads, beat-matching by advancing the cassette heads, and making mash-ups of different tracks and even whole mixes. There appear to be entire modded machines coming from this artist, complete with custom controls for performing turntable technique on cassette.
